NEWS: Binge Fringe Unveils Queer Performer’s Award for EdFringe 2024

The ‘Binge Fringe Queer Performer’s Award’ will honour the commitment of performers to furthering LGBTQIA+ causes. 4 trophies will be presented to shows in a ceremony on the 22nd August 2024 to be hosted at theSpace @ Surgeons Hall in Edinburgh’s Old Town.

The award is believed to be the only award presented by an accredited media organisation focused on highlighting the voices of Queer creatives at EdFringe this year. 163 of shows registered with the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society have listed LGBTQIA+ as one of their show’s two defining categories for the programme.

Shows will become eligible to be shortlisted if they have received a review from Binge Fringe Magazine published before or on 16th August 2024, also the date on which the shortlist will be announced. The show will need to either explicitly cover LGBTQIA+ themes or make Binge Fringe Magazine aware that a member of the cast or production team identifies as Queer via email to editor@bingefringe.com

Binge Fringe Editor Jake Mace added:

“Our mission has always been to uplift marginalised voices, and it seems high time a regular award was established to celebrate and recognise the contribution of LGBTQIA+ performers to our festival, who add so much light and tell so many important stories.”

“We have decided to make these awards non-specific in nature, as labels have a complicated history within our community. Our contributors are excited to share their thoughts on an excellent array of performances and celebrate their work in person at the ceremony.”

The results will be announced publicly following the ceremony on bingefringe.com, and photographs will be made available shortly after also. Invitations will be sent to shortlisted performers and guests in the coming weeks, as will the confirmation of a time for the ceremony.
